Courchevel is a ski resort in the Vanoise massif, organized around 5 villages. The most prestigious is Courchevel 1850, specialized in hotels and luxury shops. The other 4 villages are Saint-Bon-Tarentaise; Le Praz and its ski jump springs; Courchevel Village, its castles and narrow streets; Courchevel Moriond.
The village Courchevel 1850 gave its name to the resort, which developed the first, a new urbanization of the mountain. The work of the urban architect Laurent Chappis and the engineer Maurice Michaud, made it possible to register it in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments in 1998
In addition to the winter season and skiing, the resort has communal and sports facilities, including an aqualudic center that opened in December 2015. It offers hiking and mountain biking during the summer. Let’s not forget its international pyrotechnic art festival (since 2003) or the organization of contemporary art exhibition. Courchevel, a former testing ground for the 1992 Albertville Olympics, will host the 2023 Alpine Ski World Championships in conjunction with Méribel.
Courchevel, “high-end” resort
In the early 1990s and after the Albertville Olympics in 1992, Courchevel became an international resort. It attracts primarily French, British and Spanish tourists, but hotels also turn to business tourism for seminars and congresses.
At the dawn of the year 2000, the first Russian oligarchs arrived in the station. This becomes the meeting place for billionaires, followed by the jet-set. Russian tourists frequent the resort from late December to mid-January, from Christmas until the Orthodox New Year. The other reputed clientele is showbusiness.
After the 2008 crisis, the resort expanded its clientele in the Middle East: Dubai, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Kuwait, a country in full expansion and wealthy tourists.
Thanks to its tourist infrastructure (swimming pool, balneotherapy, catering, cultural leisure activities, trekking, luxury hotels…), the resort has several labels. In 2016, it is classified « Family Plus Mountain », « charming village resort », « Resorts large » estates, « » « » Mountain Adventure and Mountain Sweet. It is also part of the French Top of the French Alps (TOTFA) stations.

The decor
As in any Alpine chalet, wood is the predominant material. There are light woods and lauze roofs. The architect Pierre Jourdan and the house “Les Héritiers”, Aimé Cécil and Pierre Dubois, designed the decoration. They have mixed wood and glass, designer objects and baroque in a modern decor. Art is everywhere at the Strato. The arty shop, the Strato Shop, allows you to buy items from the house “Les Héritiers” or other exhibited items.
At the reception, there is an alabaster counter and a large white Murano chandelier. Designer furniture and paintings in the corridors. As for the rooms, they reflect softness and mellowness with comfortable fabrics, large beds and large armchairs…
The exhibitions
On the mezzanines, an exhibition of works by Anselme Boix-Vivres (1899-1969), father of Laurent.
The Bear of Richard Orlinski, mascot of the Strato, reigns on the terrace.
