The flowering of cherry trees in spring is Hanami, a ritual dear to the Japanese. It consists of sitting under the trees and gazing at their flowers to relax. An important moment that is shared with family, friends and also with colleagues at work. This is an opportunity to share a picnic under the cherry trees, or simply to photograph this temporary flowering.
From “Hana” which means flower and from “Mi” to look, it is the contemplation of cherry blossoms. Sakura are a variety of cherry trees from Japan and their bloom is celebrated throughout the archipelago. Sakura blooms between late March and early April. These are absolutely stunning landscapes at this time of year. The first buds are expected a week before the flower start date, as the peak flowering of cherry trees only lasts a few days during the season. This flowering time, Hanami period, is ten to fifteen days and varies by region.
The Cherry Blossom Festival is not to be missed to make the most of the beauty of the Sakura blossoms in spring. For Westerners, Japanese cherry trees correspond to the species of “Prunus Serrulata” which does not produce cherries. It is an ornamental tree renowned for its abundant spring flowering. There are different types of Sakura in Japan, the flower hue of which varies from pure white to deep pink.
