RN and LFI to Submit No-Confidence Motion: Government Crisis Persists

The RN and La France Insoumise announce the submission of a no-confidence motion against the Lecornu government. The political crisis and pension reform debate continue to divide.

The announcement of the new Lecornu government has done little to ease the political crisis in France. On Monday, October 13, Rassemblement National (RN) president Jordan Bardella sharply criticized the reshuffle, calling it a “musical chairs game” and a government made of “drawer leftovers” that, in his view, fails to meet the expectations of the French people.

“On the whole, this morning, the French feel like we’ve just pulled out the leftovers from the drawers,” he said on TF1, pointing to the Socialist Party, which he accused of “scheming in the corridors of Matignon to try to get themselves bought off” and avoid voting for censure.

The RN confirmed it would submit a no-confidence motion “in the next few hours” and that it would vote for the one initiated by La France Insoumise (LFI), even though the reverse will not be the case. According to Bardella, the Socialist Party’s stance will be decisive, dependent on the Prime Minister announcing a possible suspension of the pension reform.

“Some of the Socialists are ready to get bought,” he accused, referring to “some subsidies for municipal elections” or “fear of being swallowed by La France Insoumise in case of a dissolution.” For the RN leader, a symbolic victory on pension reform should not take precedence over “a political victory.”

He also reminded that, according to him, “a majority of French people want the National Assembly dissolved, and two-thirds also want the resignation of the President of the Republic,” advocating for new legislative elections to return to the people.

Meanwhile, La France Insoumise coordinator Manuel Bompard announced this morning on France 2 that his party would also submit a no-confidence motion “within the next few minutes,” with the support of Green and Communist deputies.

The parliamentary confrontation promises to be intense, as the Lecornu government struggles to convince and the pension reform continues to divide public opinion and political parties.
