Paris Agricultural Show Opens Without Cattle Amid Tensions

Held at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, the Salon international de l'agriculture reflects sanitary and structural challenges.

The 69th edition of the Salon international de l’agriculture at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles is taking place this year without cattle due to a dermatological livestock outbreak. The absence of bovines appears to have impacted visitor numbers compared to previous editions.

Despite this unusual context, exhibitors continue to engage the public through interactive experiences focused on agriculture, sustainability and food culture.

Overseas territories showcase unique flavours

As in previous years, France’s overseas territories have drawn strong interest from visitors eager to explore regional specialties. Caribbean rum, particularly peanut-flavoured varieties from Guadeloupe, proved popular among attendees.

A new smoked rum range branded “La Maison Fumée” emerged as one of the standout attractions, appealing to consumers seeking distinctive flavour profiles.

Organic growth and structural challenges

While organic consumption is showing signs of recovery — especially among younger adults — the decline in the number of farms remains a major concern. Strengthening supply chains is considered crucial to achieving public policy targets aimed at increasing organic products in collective catering.

Isolated security incidents

The event also saw isolated incidents that led to several arrests within the exhibition grounds. Organisers strongly condemned the violence and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a safe environment for exhibitors and visitors.

Inaugurated by French President Emmanuel Macron, this year’s show stands out as one shaped by both sanitary constraints and ongoing structural challenges facing modern agriculture.
