Round 10 of the Pro D2 delivered a fiercely contested encounter on Friday night at the Michel-Bendichou Stadium. In a tense and physical battle that went down to the wire, Provence Rugby claimed a precious away victory against Colomiers Rugby (10–12).
This result confirms the rising form of the Aix-en-Provence side, now firmly established among the league’s top contenders.
Colomiers start strong
Under light rain and in front of an enthusiastic home crowd, Colomiers got off to the perfect start. Solid in the set pieces and aggressive in the breakdowns, they quickly imposed their rhythm.
A penalty from Delpy in the 22nd minute opened the scoring, followed by a powerful try from flanker Timu (26’), which was converted. The home side looked dominant and led 10–0, fully rewarded for their energetic start.
Provence Rugby fight back before halftime
True to their combative spirit, the visitors refused to give in. Bit by bit, Provence regained control, particularly in the scrum and at the breakdown.
Just before halftime, a brilliant team move allowed Cazenave to slice through the Colomiers defence and score Provence’s first try (38’), converted by Salles (39’).
That effort brought them right back into the game, with the score at 10–7 at the break.
A tense second half
When play resumed, the match turned into a strategic arm wrestle. Defences dominated, and both sides struggled to convert their chances.
It was eventually Tui, the powerful Provence winger, who made the difference by diving over in the 62nd minute. That try gave the visitors their first lead of the match: 10–12.
In the closing stages, Colomiers threw everything forward in search of a winner, but Provence stood firm. The visitors’ defence, led by an inspired Andrés Zafra in the lineout and a composed Jules Plisson at fly-half, proved unbreakable.
A statement win on the road
This second consecutive away win confirms Provence Rugby’s ambitions for the season. The team continues to grow in confidence and demonstrates impressive resilience in key moments.
As for Colomiers, frustration prevailed. After dominating much of the first half, they were unable to capitalise on their momentum and lacked the precision needed in the final third.
