The famous park in the 19th arrondissement of Paris has been chosen by several foreign delegations to set up their home during the Paris 2024 Games.
In addition to Club France, a dozen foreign national committees have set up their pavilion, Canada was the first to announce it, in a press release showing the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie covered with a huge maple leaf and renamed Canada’s Olympic house.
Brazil has set up in a marquee, and we also find the Czech Republic, Cabaret Sauvage, Slovenia, the Netherlands and Taiwan, which have built a cultural center in the shape of a geodesic.
A cultural showcase in Paris and the Olympic Games
From July 27 to August 10, every day from 5:45 p.m., no fewer than 22 troupes and artists from Taiwan will perform at the Chinese Taipei Pavilion installed in the Parc de La Villette in Paris. On the program of this production as part of the Cultural Olympiad: music, opera, dance, DJs as well as projections of nearly 300 images of works by artists and videos from the Taiwan Arts Bank, all grouped according to four themes: the sound of freedom, the splendor of the island, contemporary art nouveau and global communion.
The design was carried out by YEN Po-Chun and is inspired by moments of gathering in Taiwan. Using stage lighting effects, the festive atmosphere of traditional shows in front of temples and the warmth of street food kiosks, the vibrant energy of Taiwan is recreated.
This event showcases the charm and diversity of Taiwan and the essence of freedom through local sounds and cross-cultural influences. You will discover artists and DJs with their unique musical style.
In addition to music, The Sound of Freedom offers interactive workshops and discussions on Taiwanese musical traditions and their contemporary evolution. These sessions allow participants to learn more about traditional instruments, composition techniques, and modern influences that shape Taiwanese music today.
A fusion of contemporary and traditional staging characterizes this event, introducing innovative works such as performances by TAI Body Theatre, electronic fusion by DJ Dungi Sapor, and traditional music by LIN Zong-fan/Feng-Chung-Teng. DJ Elvis Lin’s modern melodies, Chiu Shu-chan’s Hakka pop, ABAO’s blend of indigenous electronic music, and performances by the Taipei Puppet Theatre all convey Taiwan’s spirit of artistic and cultural evolution.
Visitors lined up as early as 5pm to get one of 500 “Taiwanese Louis Vuitton” gift bags, containing Taiwanese beer, pastries, and bubble tea ice cream. Performances by 3 People Music Orchestra, Eye Catching Circus, DJ QuestionMark, and singer Abao delighted the audience. The Pavilion, located in Parc de la Villette, highlights Taiwan’s freedom and multiculturalism with themed exhibitions and screenings of works by 300 Taiwanese artists.
