While the riots in the capital had made the fireworks of the National Day uncertain, following the death of Nahel, in Nanterre, thousands of people were present to admire the 20-minute show dedicated to the Overseas .
Everything had been planned for security thanks to a large system of 10,000 police and gendarmes in Paris and in the neighboring departments.
Broadcast live on national channels, after the traditional classical concert on the Champ de Mars from 9:15 p.m., this year’s fireworks were shorter, lasting only about twenty minutes and without a final bouquet. Overseas music accompanied the successive scenes. From 11 p.m., the sky was ablaze with a thousand lights under the eyes of thousands of spectators who arrived early for the occasion. For added security, nearby metro stations were closed from 7 p.m. Glass bottles and alcoholic beverages were prohibited as well as any sharp object or motorcycle helmet… The presence of dogs was not authorized (except guide dogs).
This pyrotechnic show on the theme of « Liberty » was designed and proposed by the company Groupe 3F, orchestrated by Christophe Berthonneau, as it has been for several years. For this edition, the Caribbean, the Portuguese-speaking countries or Cuba were on the program
The best spots to admire the fireworks
All Parisian parks with a view of the Eiffel Tower were recommended for admiring the fireworks. This is how they were invested by the crowd early. The Belleville belvedere was one of them, but it was also possible to enjoy it from the top of Parisian monuments such as the Sacré Coeur, the Montparnasse Tower (Top of the City) which offered a special evening with a panoramic visit and musical entertainment, the Trocadero .
Some hotels and rootops also offered a breathtaking view of the fireworks from their terrace, far from the crowds of the Champ de Mars, while dining or having a drink. This is how the clientele of the hotels Generator, Novotel Paris Vaugirard, Peninsula Paris, Raphaël, Terrass Hotel, Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile, Molitor, le Pley, la Réserve Paris, les Piaules Nation… were able to enjoy a show grand.
The « Rooftop Eylau » of the Canopy by Hilton Paris Trocadéro hotel offered a special French and country menu for July 14 from its terrace with a view of the Eiffel Tower, while the restaurant « Les Ombres » on the roof of the musée du quai Branly, « le Ciel de Paris » on the 56th floor of the Montparnasse Tower or the new concept store in Montmartre, Coeur Sacré had become essential spots. This is always the case for the Galeries Lafayette with « Créatures » or the Museum of Modern Art in Paris « Forest ».
For a change from the ordinary, you could opt for a cruise on the Seine on the « Bateaux Mouche », « les Bateaux Parisiens » or « Marina e Paris ». In addition to the discovery of the illuminated monuments of Paris during the meal, the passengers had a front row seat for the fireworks, from the boats positioned at the foot of the Iron Lady.
