Netherlands: royal house mourning the death of Princess Christina

Princess Christina, the younger sister of Beatrix who ruled the Netherlands until 2013, died in The Hague on Friday at the age of 72 from bone cancer, announced the royal family.
The Dutch Royal Palace announced his death in a statement.

The Royal House announced on social media and on the website of the Royal Family the death of Princess Christina: “We are saddened by the death of our dear sister and aunt. Christina had a strong personality and a great heart,” said Princess Beatrix and the royal couple, King Willem-Alexander and his wife, Queen Maxima.
“We cherish the many beautiful memories of her”.

Princess Maria Christina of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau, Princess of Lippe-Biesterfeld, was born with partial blindness on 18 February 1947 at the palace of Soestdijk in Barn.

A passionate music lover, Christina graduated from Canadian musical pedagogy and singing and dancing, and was the fourth daughter of Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard, and the younger sister of Princess Beatrix, Queen of the Netherlands from 1980 to 2013. The latter abdicated on April 30, 2013 after 33 years of reign in favor of her eldest son, Prince Willem-Alexander.

Princess Christina married exiled Cuban professor Jorge Guillermo in 1975, with whom she had three children, Bernardo, Nicolás and Juliana. Since that union, which was dissolved by a divorce in 1996, she was no longer eligible for succession to the throne.

Princess Christina will be incinerated in privacy, the Royal House said without specifying a date.
