“The two leaders will also discuss finding a political solution to the conflict on the basis of two states in order to guarantee peace and security for all in the region,” the press release concludes.
This meeting comes as Israel’s war on Gaza continues and the presence of Israeli athletes at the Olympic Games is being questioned.
In a letter addressed earlier this week to the president of the IOC (International Olympic Committee), Thomas Bach and the president of FIFA (International Football Federation) Gianni Infantino, the Palestinian Olympic Committee and the Palestinian Football Federation requested the exclusion of Israeli athletes for having violated the Olympic truce imposed from July 19 to September 15 “by continuing its bombings on Gaza, resulting in the death of at least 70 Palestinians”.
