Jazz in Marciac 2024: "Music helps break down borders"... deaf and hard of hearing people heard music

On the occasion of Ibrahim Maalouf’s concert at Jazz In Marciac, the association “Les 400 coups” is setting up a special system. Some deaf and hard of hearing people will be able to hear music for the first time.

The ceremony, to which local elected officials, the president of the Occitanie region Carole Delga, and the prefect of Gers, Laurent Carrié, were invited, launched the festival, this year under the banner of “openness”.

The inauguration of this 46th edition was launched from July 18 to August 4, the 46th edition of the Jazz in Marciac festival made the walls of the Gers commune resound. The motto of this 2024 edition: “Make your painting always an opening to the world”. Overview of this 2024 edition with its historic president, Jean-Louis Guilhaumon.

“In terms of programming, we wanted to carry out an ambitious project with a certain number of original creations, openness to young musicians, a significant female presence” explains Jean-Louis Guilhaumon.

“Allowing kids to listen to music for the first time”. Tuesday night, during Ibrahim Maalouf’s concert at Jazz In Marciac, six deaf or hard of hearing people enjoyed the show thanks to the association “Les 400 coups”. Pierre Azais is the president, he explains: “We want to introduce all audiences who are hindered: art, culture, entertainment, music.”

In 2024, the festival also gives a “non-exhaustive list of names to recite as a promise of happiness”: Ibrahim Maalouf, Richard Galliano, Chucho Valdes or Angelique Kidjo, Youn Sun Nah and Hiromi”.

On Saturday, July 21, Jazz in Marciac is programming an entire evening of concerts in honor of Ahmad Jamal, an immense jazz pianist and composer who passed away on April 16, 2023 at the age of 92, and who was a regular at the festival.

The 18 days of the festival brought together more than 40 artists eagerly awaited by the public, because as every year for more than 46 years, jazz music is in the spotlight.

A new meeting with renowned international jazz artists will take place next year during the 47th edition.
