Jacqueline Sauvage: the symbol of victims of domestic violence is dead

Jacqueline Sauvage, who had moved the whole of France with her story, she had become the symbol of victims of domestic violence.

Aged 72, Jacqueline Sauvage died on July 23 in La Selle-sur-le-Bied (Loiret), according to information from the Republic of the Center and her funeral took place on Tuesday, “in the strictest privacy” , reports the daily.

Jacqueline Sauvage was sentenced for the first time to ten years in prison in October 2014 for the murder of Norbert Marot, her husband. She had fired three shots from a shotgun two years earlier at this man who was beating her. Her sentence was confirmed on appeal in December 2015. Jacqueline Sauvage’s daughters, who worked for her release, also suffered rape and beatings.

In 2015, the verdict on appeal, which confirmed the ten-year sentence, caused a stir. An Internet petition claiming his full pardon collects 430,000 signatures.

After granting her a partial pardon in January 2016, the President of the Republic François Hollande finally fully pardoned the sixty-year-old.

His fight and his life then gave rise to a TV movie broadcast on TF1 in 2018 in which Muriel Robin played Jacqueline Sauvage.

Jacqueline Sauvage, the symbol of victims of domestic violence, the woman who moved all of France, rests in peace today, four years after her grace.
