For the second time this year, the cabaret of Crazy Horse opened with the public and revealed the secrecies of its reviews and the backstages with the public with a guide of charm, the dancer Mikado who for the occasion wears a uniform skirt pencil, white shirt, signed Fifi Chachnil and Louboutin pumps.
Temple of the glamour, femininity, of the beauty and the plays of lights, this small nested cabaret Which occurred George V in the 8th district, not far from the place of Alma and the Champs Elysées, is very different from the others but does not miss notoriety. Its name is a homage to the chief Sioux Crazy Horse; at the origin, it was a cellar of Right Bank where the customers came to drink glass and to admire the dancers with the psychedelic names.
It is in a red ECRIN that nest this palace of the seduction created in 1951 by Alain Bernardin, artist avant–gardist, insatiable admiror of the women, fascinated by the United States and obsessed by the idea to place creation and the woman in the center of her cabaret, developing a true artistic signature. Each table shows dancers whose bodies and camber are perfect and developments thanks to the corsets of Poupie Cadolle, equipped by games with light to the musical and vestimentary influences with the moment, thought around a choreography. The reputation and the incomparable know–how of the house are quickly recognized whole world.
All the dancers bear original names in keeping with their origins or their tastes. Thus one can meet Coconut Vanilla, Gloria di Parma, Pixelle Canon which adores the photograph and in the past the wife and Muse of the creator Lova Moor, Rita Renoir, Bertha von Paraboum, Polly Underground, Stella Patchouli, Tallulah Miss and well of others still…
While following the visit of Crazy Horse, one enters the slides of the show, one discovers the cabins of the strictly prohibited dancers to the men, their life and of the anecdotes, our guide answers the questions of the visitors and delivers some secrecies to us; one thinks to take part in the preparation of the show, the last being Totally Crazy, true Crazy Experiment! During 30 minutes, our guide dancer immerses us in his world and explains us how to integrate the troop of Crazy Girls. At the end of the visit, meeting of autographs and photographs with dancers.
For more than 60 years, more than 800 Crazy Girls, all perruquées and bearing enigmatic names have followed one another on the scene of the mythical cabaret. Each year, not far from 500 candidatures are received. After a formation of ballet dancing and to have answered very selective criteria, some only elected integrate the troop. After the death of its founder, Crazy House remains a high place of the Parisian evenings and since 2006, Andrée Deissenberg is in charge of the artistic director, art and creation returns in the center of the show with creators of reputation.
The fundamental codes are kept: each dancer has approximately six pairs of shoes manufactured custom–tailored as a majority by the Louboutin house which becomes in 2012 the creative guest of Crazy. All the costumes are also manufactured custom–tailored for each dancer by the workshop costumes of Crazy Horse: it takes approximately a week for a dressmaker to manufacture a costume. 2,500 pairs of bottom, 500 liters of make–up, 300 lipsticks especially manufactured in the tone “Red Crazy “are used each year. In the course of time, many collaborations were done; among them, Roberto Cavalli, Azzedine Alaïa, Poupie Cadolle, Antoine Kruk, Bob Sinclar, Swizz Beatz, Jean–Paul Gaultier (for whom the dancer Psykko Tico ravel at the time of the presentation of the collection spring be) or Chantal Thomass (art director of the show “Top–Below”) but also in the musical world such Kylie Minogue, Christina Aguilera, Mirwais, Monarchy, Blanca Li, Pierre & Gilles, Philippe Katerine, Beyoncé (for the video clip of the title “Partition” of its album left 2013).
Starting from 2006, women of exception become the guest stars of exceptional representations. The famous French choreographer Philippe Decouflé Co–sign in 2009 the review Desires, with the photographer and art director Ali Mahdavi.
The cabaret inspires also the photographers, the scenario writer David Lynch photographed a dancer of Crazy Horse and in made the official poster of the 61ème Cannes Film Festival, and the German photographer Ellen von Unwerth. In 2014, Italian Riccardo Tinelli presents to space Purgatory – 54 Paradises from April 2nd to April 11th, 2014 “Fabulous Crazy Horse: who are you behind these lights? “, a new photographic exposure dedicated to femininity and the glamour, born from the artistic union enters the photographer and Crazy.
Famous personalities became purchaser of armchairs like David Bowie, Francis Ford Coppola, Gérard Depardieu, Michel Houellebecq, Kylie Minogue, Michel Polnareff, Sting, Madonna or more recently Rihanna, Dr. Dre, Scarlett Johansson and Will Smith but also Salvador Dali, prince Rainier de Monaco, Liz Taylor and J.F.K at the time. “While becoming purchaser of the one of these armchairs, one buys also a short period of the legend! ” known as Crazy.
Since April 2017, the last show “Totally Crazy” in artistic collaboration with Andrée Deissenberg (Cirque du Soleil) Svetlana Konstantinova (the director of the troop) represents the DNA of the cabaret (glamour, audacity, impertinence) around the various tables. It gathers 65 years of creation in an exceptional show with 2 innovations, the duet of Belgian crooners George Bangable and Lolly Wish, worthy heirs to the mad years; mythical creations of Crazy are found grouped in only one space time.
