The parade of medal-winning athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games and the presentation of medals from other Olympic Games to those who deserve them following the disqualification of some doped athletes, during the competitions in Sydney, London and Beijing.
During the Paris Olympic Games, which take place from July 27 to August 11, we met at the Trocadero a daily parade of Olympic athletes showing their medals to spectators and even taking photos with them. Each nation shows its strength and dedication through the medals obtained in the sports disciplines.
Former Jamaican athletes have their Olympic medals reassigned in Paris
Olympic athletes Beverly McDonald, Chelsea Hammond Ross and Kaliese Spencer-Carter officially received their reassigned Olympic medals during a ceremony held on August 10 at the Parc des Champions in the Trocadero gardens.
Jamaican Chelsea Hammond Ross was presented with her reassigned bronze medal in the women’s long jump from the 2008 Beijing Olympics on Friday at a ceremony at the Parc des Champions in the Trocadero Gardens in Paris.
Hammond Ross was upgraded to bronze for her performance in Beijing after silver medallist Tatyana Lebedeva was disqualified for testing positive for a banned substance.
With the medal, Hammond Ross became the first Jamaican woman to win an Olympic medal in the women’s long jump.
It’s an accolade she takes no lightly and is proud of, having pioneered the way for those who have come after her.
Beverly McDonald also received a bronze medal after finishing fourth in 22.35 seconds behind Marion Jones at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Jones was later disqualified after admitting to using performance-enhancing drugs before the Olympics.
Keliese Spencer-Carter, won the bronze medal in the 400m hurdles after Natalya Antyukh was disqualified due to a doping scandal. She finished fourth behind Antyukh at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
A historic medal as it had been 32 years since Peru had last stood on the Olympic podium
After a 32-year wait, it is now back on the Olympic podium, thanks to the incredible participation of Stefano Peschiera in sailing.
The Peruvian athlete took third place in the men’s dinghy category. First place went to Cypriot Pavlos Kontides and the silver medal to Australian Matt Wearn.
The last Olympic medal won by a Peruvian athlete was in Barcelona in 1992, when Juan Giha won the silver medal in skeet shooting.
The strongest athletes in the competition ranked among the top 3 nations are:
– The United States in first place, with 126 medals to their name, including 40 gold, 44 silver and 42 bronze;
– Followed by China in second place with a total of 91 medals, including 40 gold, 27 silver and 24 bronze;
– Japan in third place, with 45 medals to its name, including 20 gold, which gave it the opportunity to rank third, 12 silver medals and 13 bronze medals.
France obtained 5th place at home, a fairly well-ranked place with a rich list of medals, 64 medals obtained including 16 gold, 26 silver and 22 bronze.
In position 84 in the Olympic Games ranking, we find the Olympic refugees who are part of countries at war and cannot compete for their country, who won a bronze medal in the boxing discipline by Cindy Winner DJANKEU NGAMBA.
Even though there is war, the Ukrainian delegation had the honor of participating in the Olympic Games and ranked 22nd, ahead of Romania, with a total of 12 medals, including 3 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze. Isn’t this favoritism for Ukraine! Or did the Games have a political connotation with a determinable message for Russia given that during the last 3-4 Olympic competitions, Russian athletes were discovered doping?
We are waiting for the closing ceremony which takes place tonight from 9 pm to enjoy new scenarios like at the opening of the Olympic Games.
