A few weeks before the celebration of the fortieth anniversary of the awarding of the Prix Goncourt to Marguerite DURAS for « The Lover », rush to admire Catherine ARTIGALA in her masterful interpretation of « La vie material » (directed by Willian MESGUISCH), where she portrays a lifelike DURAS.
In this alone-on-stage, intimate since the writer receives us in her study, Catherine ARTIGALA, alias Marguerite DURAS, gives herself up to a real intimate confession, addressing pell-mell her alcoholism, her obsessive relationship to writing , her relationship with men in general and her young lover in particular, Yann ANDREA (born Yann LEMEE), 38 years her junior…
Michel MONNEREAU thus carried out the adaptation of a series of interviews, in the form of « spurts of emotions », granted by DURAS to the still living journalist, Jérôme BEAUJOUR and published under the title « La vie material ». If this book published by Gallimard in 1987, during the lifetime of DURAS (deceased in 1996), claims a « floating writing », the adaptation by Michel MONNEREAU, as well as its masterful interpretation by Catherine ARTIGALA, makes it much more accessible to the viewer.
Catherine ARTEGA slipped into the clothes of the novelist without difficulty: « I am a bit like the reincarnation of DURAS, I am very surprised myself ». And the one who already has a hundred performances of this piece to her credit, is enthusiastic about her programming at the Lucernaire: « When you have tasted the Lucernaire, you have the feeling of finally rubbing shoulders with the real audience of this show! ».
