9th Tattoo World Welcomes 420 Tattoo Artists From Around The World

The 9th edition of the Mondial du tattoo is held from February 15 to 17 at the Grande Halle de la Villette in Paris in the 19th arrondissement under the patronage of Philippe Decouflé.

Reference of the world of tattooing thanks to its more than 4 000 professionals in France and its hundreds of thousands of aficionados, it became since 1999, date of its creation the most visited event and the first of the planet devoted to this art through his extensive catalog of pictorial style. The greatest artists in the world present their work in a festive atmosphere with concerts and places to eat. Public and professionals can discover specialized books and the necessary material they need during these 3 days during which take place the essential contests which reward this year no less than 34 artists. Filip Leu, Bill Salon’s jury, Luke Atkinson, Kari Barba and Mark Mahoney will recognize the winners who will receive this year a panther head carved by Tin-Tin, the most famous tattoo artist in Pigalle, the best known in France and the organizer of the Mondial du Tattoo. The partners will also give gifts to tattooed and tattoo artists.

This year, more than 30,000 visitors are expected to come and meet 420 tattoo artists (50 new each year) from 40 countries, whether for curiosity or tattooing. The 10th art, as it is defined exposes his creations to the general public: better back, better wide color, better little black and gray .. and after having associated with the painting, the music and the photography decided to choose this year the dance by choosing Philippe Decouflé as godfather. The latter has adapted his choreography by proposing dancers whose only clothes temporary tattoos made by Tin-Tin who takes advantage of the Mondial to present his book “Under the gaze of Tin-Tin” (history of tattooing, exclusive photos of archives, Unpublished interview of Tin-Tin, 100 portraits of essential tattoo artists with interview and their most beautiful works …)

At the Théâtre National de Chaillot, during the show “Nouvelles Pièces Courtes”, Tin-Tin and Philippe Decouflé met in 2018; Tin-Tin immediately had the idea to propose to Philippe Decouflé an association combining tattooing and dance for the 9th World. The choreographer has drawn in 4 of his old shows, Décodex (1995), Octopus (2008), Contact (2014) and Short Pieces (2017) to create the choreography. The dancers are dressed in tattoos made by Tin-Tin will fly over the public and will perform on the catwalk to the rhythm of optical illusions developed by the company DCA (Diversity, Fellowship, Agility).

Philippe Decouflé, born in 1961, has been trained in several disciplines through high schools (body language with Isaac Alvarez, circus at Annie Fratellini school, mime at Marceau school and dance with Matt Mattox. and international and collaborated to multiple creations including “Blue, White, Goude” on the Champs Elysees on the occasion of the bicentennial of the French Revolution or 3 years later, to the staging of the opening and closing ceremonies Alberville Olympic Games In 2016, he was the first French director to present a show on Broadway following the Cirque du Soleil musical “Paramour” but also to the tribute to David Bowie for the Philharmonie from Paris with “Wiebo”.

Tin-Tin is the organizer of the Mondial du Tattoo, born in 1965, he began his career as a tattoo artist in Berlin in 1984 while performing his military service and drawing inspiration from art books and illustration rather than the iconography of tattoo artists. It is then noticed on a global scale in many countries. This is how he counts among his illustrious clients, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Florent Pagny, Marc Jacobs, Pascal Obispo, Yannick Noah, Lio or Julien Doré … In 2003, he created the National Union of Tattoo Artists (SNAT) ) and manages to regulate the profession and in 2008, he co-writes the implementing texts of the health decree with the Directorate General of Health to ensure tattoo artists and their customers optimal hygiene conditions. He continues his craft in his shop rue de Douai in Pigalle and pleads for his status as an artist and that of many colleagues is officially recognized.
